Measles is a highly infectious viral illness.

It's now rare in the UK due to the effectiveness of the MMR vaccination however, if you suspect you have Measles or have been in contact with someone who has the virus, seek immediate advice from your GP or contact NHS Direct 0845 4647.

Most people born in the UK after 1970, will have been vaccinated as part of the national childhood vaccination programme. Those born before 1970 are likely to have had natural Measles infection and have acquired immunity to the disease.
