Executive

Chief Executive Michael Williams LLM BA (Hons) PGCE PGDipFE FCIM MIOD. 

Michael joined Gwalia as Chief Executive in 1982 when the organisation only comprised some 350 units. Since that time Michael has grown the organisation substantially not only in terms of units but also with a vast array of diverse housing and care services throughout Wales. In addition to housing, Michael is also very interested in health, education and the voluntary sector and the links between them. He is Vice Chair and a Non Executive Director of Swansea NHS Trust; Member of the Wales Assembly Government's Panel of Advisors for Appointments to Public Office; Deputy Chair of Housing Securities Ltd and Housing Securities 40 Ltd; Vice President of Housing Euro Plus and a Board Member of Welsh Council for Voluntary Action.  As well as being Vice Chair and Governor of Swansea FE College, Michael has also been recognised for his contribution to housing by the University of Glamorgan. He is Professor of Social Housing and Care in the Community in the Faculty of Care Sciences.


 

The Directorate

The Executive department has an important role to play in the success of the organisation. It is home to the Group Chief Executive, in-house solicitors and internal auditors, along with other staff responsible for the policy and strategy of the Group and its companies. The Community Initiatives team are also based there and work closely with individual residents and groups in areas where Gwalia or its Group companies operate.

The Executive department also encompasses Information Services, which implements and maintains Gwalia's computer networks and software systems and the Health, Safety and Security Department which strategically directs the organisation towards compliance with legal requirements and the implementation of best practice for accidents and incidents.
